Play Principles

Three boys and a play worker with lego

All children need to play, it is a biological, psycholgical and social necessity.  It is one of the main areas of development in the Foundation Stage (Personal Social and Emotional Development) Play is essential for their health development for the child and the wider community and at Dulwich Village Kids Club we provide every opportunity to do this.

Play at Dulwich Village Kids Club is freely chosen by the children to support their independence and it gives them control over their play. They have a wide choice of toys and resources and outside areas to explore and make up their own games.

The role of the play worker is to support the children in their play if they need it and provide an environment where they can do this freely and safely.  Playworkers at Dulwich Village Kids Club understand that it is important not to interrupt play unnecessarily.
